a team of 5 people

15 yrs of combined college education.

40 years of combined writing/ editing/ tutoring of the English language.

EJW Creations is a strong team of people...and even though we specialize in the written word, our corporate website showed the following:

"We not only promise great a client interaction, we guarantee it."

obviously, it should be A GREAT, not GREAT A, and we have now rectified that problem.

We are supposed experts in this field. We are supposed masters of our language.

And we still made such an easy mistake. The eyes, and more importantly, their relationship to our mind, is an amazing thing. Mistakes have become so commonplace perhaps, that the brain doesn't even see them anymore.

Sadly, for a short while, we were part of that problem.

From everyone at EJW Creations; a sincere, deep apology for our oversight.

The bigger firms, the critics, the people who think small will say,"I told you so."

I will say to them soon, "Catch me."

Very true statement. The brain sees what it EXPECTS to see, not what is actually there. The problem is our brain does not focus on individual words but rather the concept as a whole. So when we read "promise great a client interaction" our brain interprets the line correctly because it is what we expect to see. Even as I re-read the line I just typed, knowing full well I typed it incorrectly, I still automatically read it properly.

We do not focus on individual terms but rather the concepts they represent. There was a great memory experiment I did while in psychology class in college. Look at the following string of letters for ten seconds then, without looking again, try to recite as many of the letters as you can:

AIC BFI SNA JDO FOU AUS DHP IMC

Most people will be able to recall about 25% after studying the list for ten seconds.

Now try this list:

CIA FBI NSA DOJ UFO USA PHD MCI

Most people can get 100% recall with this list.

Even though each list had the same exact letters we can recall the second list so much easier because our minds do not focus on the individual components, only the overall concept. AIC doesn't mean anything to us but CIA does.

Our minds do not process data in a reliable way. Human senses cannot be trusted to give a full and accurate representation of reality. Therefore we must rely on our technology; it is the only thing we can trust.
